The Routt 45 is optimised for 700 x 30-45mm tyres and gains its name from the maximum 45mm tyre size. Even though the frame can fit such large tyres, offering excellent comfort over the harsh terrains it is intended for, Moots have managed to create a geometry with short rear stays, creating a lively ride feel and snappiness that aids climbing and cornering agility. This is a frame that in many ways bears more resemblance to endurance road machines in terms of feel and performance than other gravel specific bikes.
Moots has been manufacturing titanium frames since 1991 and has become synonymous with the material. Confidence in its manufacturing is such that Moots offers a lifetime warranty against any defects in material and workmanship.
The Routt 45 is the latest in a long line of Routt frames from Moots. It embodies many of the characteristics of its earlier iterations, developed by Moots’ small staff of 17 craftsmen, but also features a new 3D-printed flat-mount disc mount and drop out.
3D-printing this vital part of the bike has various benefits Due to the precision of 3D-printing the part ensures perfect wheel alignment and brake mounting. It is also incredibly resourceful: to machine the dropout from a billet would result in 85% waste whereas 3D printing results in less than 10% waste. This makes the machining process in line with Moots overall ethos of responsible business practice and always minimising waste.
Italso features a third bottle mount on the underside of the downtube, meaning you can go further without a refill stop, or carry tools and spares in a tool bottle.
The Routt 45 is available is seven different sizes, with specific tubing diameters and wall thicknesses for every frame size that create the best performance standard for differing rider weights and sizes.
Customisation is also central to Moots work. As well as standard sizing, the Routt 45 is available in custom geometry. Different finishes are also available including etching, anodizing, and polishing. These factors combine to mean that the Routt 45 can be totally unique. A one-off bike, from a one of a kind bike producer.
